Installing LanSchool Air for Mac Student

Installing LanSchool Air for Mac Student

Overview

This article explains how to install the Mac client on an individual student device. For instructions on deploying the Mac client to a large number of student devices, see Mass Deploying LanSchool Air for Mac Student
  1. As a teacher, log into LanSchool Air, create and start a class.

  2. From the Class Toolbar, select the Add Device icon.

  3. Select Add New Student.

  4. Select Get Access Link to generate a unique URL. The URL is valid for 60 minutes and only valid while the window is open.

The dialog window must stay open during the client installation. If the window is closed before completion, or more than 60 minutes has gone by, you will have to start over.

  5. Copy or write down the generated URL. Each student device will need to access this URL to download a copy of the installer.

  6. Once the student devices are installed with the LanSchool Air Student client, select Finish Adding at the bottom of the window.

  7. If your licensed device count is over by 1 or more devices, the Add Device button will be disabled and Requires a valid license will appear when hovering over the button. If you require additional licenses please contact your LanSchool Air sales representative.

Download and Install

  1. Open any browser on the device on which the LanSchool Air client will be installed. If you are installing the client on more than one device, open a browser on each device.

  2. Enter the URL generated earlier in the browser on each device where the client will be installed.

  3. The following pop-up window displays:
  4.
  5. Select Continue.

  6. Accept the license agreement, and then select Continue.

  7. Select a destination for the client installer, and then select Continue.

  8. Select the installation type, and then select Continue. The installation begins, and the following window opens, showing the installation progress:

  9. The following message displays when the installation is complete:

  10. Select Close. An approval dialog opens.

  11. These approvals can also be made using a Mobile Device Management (MDM) server.  See the Configuring LanSchool Air for Mac Privacy Approvals with MDM  for more information.

Accept macOS Security and Privacy Approvals

The LanSchool Air Approvals wizard should appear automatically, but if it needs to be access again, open Finder > Applications and launch LanSchool Air. Select Continue when the Security and Approvals dialog appears. Unlock and select LanSchool Air for each approval required.
  1. Select Continue. The Security and Privacy dialog displays, showing the LanSchool Air app.

  2. Select Continue. A dialog requesting permission to access Safari displays.

  3. Select OK . A dialog requesting full disk access displays.

  4. Ensure that the LanSchool Air Client check box is selected, and then select Done. The red Approval Status icon on the dialog displays as green.

  5. (macOS 10.15+ only) A dialog requesting Screen Recording Approval appears. Ensure the LanSchool Air Client option is selected and then select Done. The red Approval Status Icon on the dialog displays as green.

  6. The LanSchool Air client is now installed and ready to use. The LanSchool Air icon shows in the system tray.

The student device is provisioned to your organization and uses a license until a site administrator removes the device.

Uninstalling LanSchool Air

  1. Open Terminal. This can be accessed by clicking on spotlight and typing in the word "terminal".

  2. Type in:  sudo /Library/Application\ Support/LenovoSoftware/LanSchoolAir/LSAirUninstall.app/Contents/MacOS/lsairuninstaller /uninstall

  3. Press enter and you will see a prompt to uninstall. When the process is over, you will not be notified, but you can confirm that LanSchool Air icon is missing from the menu bar.
After the LanSchool Air client is uninstalled, this device will no longer be available for instructors to manage in a class. However, the device name will still appear in the list of provisioned student devices. To remove this and free up the license, a Site Admin should go to Settings > Students and select and remove the device by name.
